The relationship between the job satisfaction, the organizational commitment and the performance effectiveness : a case study of the state railway of Thailand
Abstract:
This was a quantitative research study aiming to examine the correlation
between job satisfaction, organizational commitment and work effectiveness.
Especially, it attempted to examine the ability of job satisfaction and organizational
commitment in explaining work effectiveness. The population in the research
included 1,214 officers who have performed duties at the State Railway of Thailand
(SRT). The research instrument used was a questionnaire developed in accordance
with related concepts, principles and theories. The questionnaire content validity was
checked by certain qualified experts. The data was collected and analyzed by SPSS
for Windows to determine frequency, percentage, mean, Standard Deviation, and
correlation analysis by way of Pearsons Product Moment Correlation Coefficient and
Multiple Regression Analysis to explain related variables.
The results showed that job satisfaction, organizational commitment and
work effectiveness of SRT officers was at a high level. The results of correlation
analysis between job satisfaction, organizational commitment and work effectiveness
were moderately positive. In analyzing the ability of job satisfaction and
organizational commitment to explain work effectiveness, the result showed that job
satisfaction had a Regression Coefficient at 0.359, that is, if job satisfaction increased
by 1 unit, work effectiveness would increase by .359 units as well. The variable of
organizational commitment had a Regression Coefficient at 0.485, that is, if
organizational commitment increased by 1 unit, work effectiveness would increase by
0.458 as well. The variation stayed at 49.8% (R2 = 0.498).
However, job satisfaction and organizational commitment were unable to
explain all facets of work effectiveness or only at 49.8%. The grounds for this may be
that this research did not cover all sample groups enough to fully analyze this
organization and there may be other influencing factors such as leadership, which
may also be used to explain work effectiveness.
