The impact on certified ISO 14001 organization to its business
ผลกระทบทางด้านธุรกิจขององค์กรที่ได้รับการรับรองมาตรฐานการจัดการสิ่งแวดล้อม ISO 14001.
Abstract:
This research studied the impact of being a certified ISO 14001 organization on
business. The research was exploratory, using interview forms to collect data from
representatives who carried out environment tasks or persons who were responsible for
environmental management. The researcher sent 1,032 questionnaires and received 250
back. Then, data were gathered and analyzed by statistics programs including frequency,
percentage, arithmetic mean, and standard deviation.
The results found that persons who completed the questionnaires were mostly
male, and had graduated in a Bachelors of Environmental Science. Common type of
organization was broadcasting (radio/TV), which had run for 15-30 years. The business
usually involved investment from overseas and exported products and services to the
local and international market, and had only operated ISO 14001 for 6-9 months. Most
organizations were supported to operate ISO 14001. The internal factors that influenced
the operation of ISO 14001 were customers and executives recognition. The external
factors were regulations from government or environmental agencies. Most organizations
would like to operate ISO 14001 for the purposes of enhancing environment in the
organizations and giving benefits to both staff health and trade competition. Still other
factors influencing waste reduction capacity (environment benefits) were the decision to
operate ISO 14001, followed by export factors (export to Europe, non-export
organizations, export to Asia and America), duration to run business, and numbers of staff
to operate ISO 14001, respectively. The most effective of environment benefit for using
ISO 14001 was energy saving, and the least were sound issues.
The results found that most certified ISO 14001 organizations had not obtained
benefits on environment and business, which led to lack of inspiration to make a decision
whether to operate ISO 14001.
