The evaluation of return on investment on training for the trainer project
Abstract:
This study was to develop an evaluation process model of return on investment of
human capital development by training and to interpret the results of the monetary valuation
returns and the non-monetary valuation returns that affect the quality of life of people
affected by the training program. The mixed methodology research technique was applied to
the case study using questionnaires, observations and in-depth interviews. The research
process was devided into 4 steps, i.e. evaluation planning, data collecting, data analysis and
reporting.
It was found that 1 the model could be applied in the governmental hospital case
study, 2 the monetary valuation return on investment was short-term, 3 the non-monetary
valuation return was the key factor that especially affected the long-term return on investment
and the overall result, 4 applying the training program using the model involved many
constraints such as data collecting methods, converting data to monetary values, time frame
and evaluation hypotheses etc.
It is recommended from the research that both the government and private sectors
should develop an efficient approach also consistent with quality of life development.
Profitability in human capital investment by training not only gave returns to the organizations
but also offered social benefits to the public. The lessons learned from training evaluation
project constraints could be applied to suit any business case
