The organizational communication of the event orgnizer
Abstract:
The objective of this thesis is to study the working process of an event organizer, to study
the method of organizational communication which occurs in the working process, and to analyze the
factors which effect the communication. There were 8 people sampled in this study. All of them
participated in event organization. The tool of data collection was interviewing, documentation and
observation. The results of the study showed that a producer is responsible for controlling every step of
event organization under the highest supervision of the managing director. In addition, the producer has
to properly assign responsibilities to the working team. The working procedures can be divided into 3
steps: pre-production, production, and post production. Communication occurring in each procedure
can be categorized as follows: Communications from a number of communicators, or Intra-personal
Communication, Interpersonal Communication, and Small Group Communication. Internal
communication had four directions which were Upward Communication, Downward Communication,
Horizontal Communication, and Cross-Channel Communication. The most frequently used
communications were the first three methods, and Cross-channel communication was the most rarely
used. Besides internal communication, communication between organizations was also found, (external
communication). Most communication was unofficial. Semi-official and official communications were
only found in some operational procedures. Verbal communication and non-verbal communication
were applied together. In some occasions, non-verbal communication was used instead of verbal
communication.
The study results indicated factors influencing communication can control the factors which
cause damage of communication, reduction of problems, and supports of operational efficiency
