Relationship between quality of work life and job performance for Police Office-Crime Prevention and Suppression Division : case study Thonglor Metropolitan Station
Abstract:
This research intended to study the level of quality of work life and job
performance and relationship between quality of work life and job performance of 148
police officers in Crime Prevention and Suppression Division at Thonglor
Metropolitan Station. Data was collected from 1-21 of January 2003 using the
questionnaires. General data was analyzed by the amount and percentage, level of
quality of work life and job performance by the average and standard deviation, and
relation between quality of work life and job performance by the factor analysis and the
Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA). Data was presented in form of descriptive
tables.
Results showed that the majority of police officers - Crime Prevention and
Suppression Division - at the Thonglor Metropolitan Station were 31-35 years old
(36.5%). Most of them were married (66.2%). Their working experiences ranged from
6-10 years (32.4%) and they earned between THB 9,001-10,000 (39.2%). Their quality
of work life as a whole and in aspects was medium. The results of supervisor rating,
peer rating and self-rating were medium (68.2%) Quality of work life statistically and
significantly related to job performance (r=.396). Quality of work life in social
integration, total life space, and social relevance influenced an ability to work both in
job responsibility and job initiatives.
The Royal Thai Police administrators were recommended, based on the
research results, to realize the meaning of developing quality of work life, to increase
safety devices, such as bulletproof vests, and compensation or allowances, and to
encourage good working atmosphere within the agency.
