Factors related to the family relationship of the women administrative leaders in government service in the Bangkok Mftropolitan area
Abstract:
Women who are administrative leaders have difficulties in balancing their
family role with their leadership role. Traditionally the woman should be in charge
of the home. With the additional burden of the leadership role, she can suffer from
stress. The purpose of the study was to survey the family relationship of executive
women who work in government service in the Bangkok metropolitan area and
factors related to their family relationship. Two hundred and five married and
working women in leader positions filled out questionnaires.
This research revealed that executive women have good family relationships.
On the topic of family relationship, the most important aspect was family happiness
and safety, followed by admiration for family members, capability to deal with
family crises, family communication, time spent together, and religious faith. It was
found that, if women have children and if there is encouragement from family
member, there will be a good family relationship. These two factors explain the
family relationship at 53 percent.
As noted, the topic of religious faith was found to be of the lowest importance
in the family relationship of executive women. However, this topic has for a long
time been very important in Thai society as the basis for married life and moral
principles within the family. In the family that has a high respect for the Buddhist
religion there will be more presence of mind, patience, forgiveness, and help for one
another. This is considered the basic responsibility for everyone in society. So the
lack of religion in the executive women’s families could contribute to any problems.
Because families without good relationships are prone to family problems
causing a high divorce rate, the government section should support moral teaching
concerning family life. Government departments such as the education and religion
departments should support and coordinate the establishment of a suitable curriculum
for the dissemination of moral teachings in schools or through other channels.
