Abstract: The purpose of this study is to explore the discourse structure and cohesive devices in the narrative lyrics of Jaran Manopetch’s songs. The song data used in this research include the lyrics of twenty-eight narrative songs composed and arranged by Jaran Manopetch. Moreover, the song data are divided into two groups according to terminology and pronunciation of Jaran Manopetch: five standard Thai songs and twenty-three northern Thai songs were studied. The lyrics’s discourse structure and cohesive devices were analyzed semantically and syntactically according to theoretical frameworks of Robert E. Longacre on the grammar of discourse and of M.A.K. Halliday and Ruqaiya Hasan on the cohesion in English The findings of the study could be summarized as follows: the discourse structure of narrative lyrics of Jaran Manopetch constitutes three obligatory notional features: exposition, inciting moment, and climax, and four obligatory surface features: title, stage, prepeak episodes, and peak. In addition, the finis of surface structure is excluded. The cohesive devices in the narrative lyrics of Jaran Manopetch include eight sections: the thematic elements identified by serial thematic verb construction, punctual and sequential indicators of events, the structural cohesion: cycles, the participant cohesion composed of two sections: introduction and maintenance of participants, the demonstrative reference, the substitution, the ellipsis, the conjunctive elements, and the lexical cohesion. Likewise, the demonstrative reference and the ellipsis take on two cohesive directions: presupposed and presupposing way, whereas the substitution functions solely as a presupposed item.

Abstract: การศึกษาเรื่อง “ การวิเคราะห์สัมพันธสารในบทเพลงเล่าเรื่องของ จรัล มโนเพ็ชร ” นี้ มี วัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาโครงสร้างภาษาในระดับสัมพันธสาร และกลวิธีการเชื่อมโยงความในบท เพลงเล่าเรื่องของ จรัล มโนเพ็ชร โดยศึกษาจากบทเพลงเล่าเรื่องซึ่งประพันธ์โดย จรัล มโนเพ็ชร รวมทั้งสิ้น 28 เพลง ซึ่งประกอบไปด้วยเพลงไทยสากล 5 เพลง และเพลงไทยถิ่นเหนือ (คำเมือง) 23 เพลง วิเคราะห์โครงสร้างทางสัมพันธสารในเนื้อเพลงเล่าเรื่องโดยใช้หลักใน การศึกษาไวยากรณ์ในระดับสัมพันธสารของ โรเบิร์ต อี. ลองเอเคอร์ และวิเคราะห์กลวิธีการ เชื่อมโยงความโดยใช้หลักในการศึกษากลวิธีการเชื่อมโยงความในภาษาอังกฤษของ เอ็ม.เอ.เค. ฮัลลิเดย์ และริเคยา ฮาซัน ผลการศึกษาพบว่า โครงสร้างภาษาในระดับสัมพันธสารในบทเพลงเล่าเรื่องของ จรัล มโนเพ็ชร ประกอบด้วยโครงสร้างทางความหมายที่บังคับต้องปรากฏ 3 ส่วน คือ การนำเรื่อง เหตุการณ์ยั่วยุ และจุดตึงเครียด และโครงสร้างทางไวยากรณ์ที่บังคับต้องปรากฏ 4 ส่วน ได้แก่ชื่อ เรื่อง ฉาก หน้าตอนเด่น และตอนเด่น อนึ่ง ไม่พบส่วนของการปิดเรื่องจากการศึกษาโครงสร้าง ทางไวยากรณ์ในบทเพลงเล่าเรื่องของ จรัล มโนเพ็ชร กลวิธีการเชื่อมโยงความในบทเพลงเล่า เรื่องของ จรัล มโนเพ็ชร ประกอบด้วย 8 ประเด็นหลัก คือ การเชื่อมโยงความโดยส่วนประกอบ ที่แสดงแก่นของเรื่อง การเชื่อมโยงความด้านโครงสร้างของสัมพันธสาร การเชื่อมโยงความโดย การอ้างถึงตัวแสดง การเชื่อมโยงความประเภทอ้างอิงเชิงบ่งชี้ การเชื่อมโยงความโดยการแทนที่ การเชื่อมโยงความโดยการละข้อความ การเชื่อมโยงความโดยการใช้คำเชื่อม และการเชื่อมโยง ความโดยใช้คำศัพท์
