A study on the design and construction of computer-assisted instruction : clinical application of defibrillator
Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to design and construct CAI for the clinical
application of a defibrillator. The efficiency of such lessons can be evaluated
by comparing pre-test and post-test scores between nursing students
who studied with CAI, and those who studied with the paper sheet instruction
only. The attitude towards the CAI lesson was also used for CAI evaluation.
The researcher has built up the CAI lesson and the paper sheet instruction
with the same content.
The subjects were 4th year students of the Army Nursing College. The
selected 30 students were those with a GPA at more than 2.5. They were divided
into 2 groups with 15 persons each and the matching was done by the GPA
of the subjects. The first group was to study by CAI lesson and the second group
was to study by the paper sheet instruction. Both groups had to take the pre-test and
right after the study, the post-test. The first group also had to fill in the
questionnaire regarding their attitude towards CAI lesson after they finished the
lesson.
The result were analysed statistically using ; mean, standard deviation, and
t-test. It was found that there was on significant difference in the scores of the pretest
of both groups. This showed that the background knowledge of both groups
were the same. Also, there was no significant difference between the post-test
scores of both groups. However, the mean of the questionnaire was between 3.7
and 5. This showed that most subjects had a positive attitude towards CAI lessons
and everyone agreed that CAI was useful for the content revision which was hard
to understand.
