The participation of parents in the inclusive education of children with special needs under the Office of the National Primary Education Commission, Banpong, Ratchaburi province
Abstract:
This research was a qualitative and a quantitative research studying the
participation of parents in the inclusive education of children with special needs under
the Office of the National Primary Education Commission, Bangpong, Ratchaburi
Province, conditions and status of factors which supported the participation. The
population studied consisted of the parents of the children with special needs, school
administrators, the teachers who taught the children with special needs and a sample
group of parents of regular children. Information was collected by questionnaire and
interview together with observation. The information was analyzed by frequency,
percentage and interpretation. The results of this research are as follows:
The parents of children with special needs have the least participation in the
inclusive education management of all activities. Conditional factors which supported
parents’ participation were types of disabilities and children’ s readiness, the education
responsibility of parents to their own children, family economics, parents’ acceptance
of children with special needs, receiving children’s information, specific educational
policies and personal readiness.
Recommendations from this research are as follows: The parents participated
when the school or teachers invited them. Therefore, the school should encourage
parents to have more participation by this strategy. One of the important activities is
setting an Individual Education Program
