Analysis, design, and development of a web-based application using object oriented technology : a case study of a welding wire purchasing system
Abstract:
The objectives of this study were to analyze, design, and develop a Purchasing
System (PS) using client/server technology and a relational database. The UML
(Unified Modeling Language) was the notation for Object-Oriented analysis and
design. Software tools for this research were: Rational Rose 98 for the Object-
Oriented analysis and design, Macromedia Dreamweaver for user interface and
programming, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 for the database management system.
Testing tools were Fault-Base Tests and Scenario-Based Test cases.
The results of the study were the system documentation, database schema and
the prototype. The user can access to the system according to the level of access
stipulated. The purchasing system was divided into 2 sub-system: 1) the Back-office
sub system was capable of being used for 6 major functions i.e. product information
management, user information management, customer information management, file
management, member approval and order management & reporting. 2) the Frontoffice
sub system had 4 main functions, member profile management, searching
product, shopping online system and tracking the order’s status.
In testing the system, it was seen that the PS system could run the process
more accurately and more efficiently. The system functions met the requirement of all
user groups. Furthermore, this research will serve as a guideline in future system
development with Object Oriented Technology.
