Application of vocational training of the released prisoners of the Department of Corrections for their future career : a case study of Thonburi Remand Prison
Abstract:
This qualitative research was aimed at investigating vocational knowledge
implementation of former prisoners from Thonburi Remand Prison and reasons why
the knowledge was not implemented. Observation and in-depth interview were used
as the data collection methods and content analysis was utilized to analyze the data.
The samples were classified into 2 groups: those implementing and those not
implementing vocational knowledge in their careers.
The research findings revealed that the group implementing the vocational
knowledge in their careers were attentive to training and were determined to make a
living, in addition to having capital for investment and residences within communities
favorable to earning a living. The group unable to implement the knowledge was not
interested in vocational training and was in a situation where the application of
vocational skills was not possible, especially the lack of capital because of and premises.
It is recommended from the findings that to solve the problem of the
inability to implement vocational knowledge of former prisoners, joint cooperation
between the Ministries of Justice, Labor and Social Welfare and Interior should be
carried out in order to promote and assist employment among ex-prisoners.
Furthermore, concerned agencies should evaluate job performance of ex-inmates in
order to improve or alter instructions and training courses so that they could be in
accordance with current labor market needs
