Abstract:
The objective of this independent study is to develop spa bath bomb, product consists
of mixing of sodium bicarbonate, citric acid and water. By which after putting in a bathtub, it
produces a spreading foam bubble together with the evaporation of odor (Essential oil) that
affects the feeling and emotion. The product evaluation of users satisfaction on smelling
sensation was performed in 60 volunteers by answering the questionnaires. In the test, the
volunteers was divided into two groups of each 30 persons. The first group was tested on
products containing lavender essential oil compared with synthetic lavender perfume. Whereas
the second group was tested on products containing bergamot essential oil compared with
synthetic bergamot perfume. The results revealed that the satisfaction on smelling sensation of
product before and after application was different. Before using the product, the volunteers were
satisfied with synthetic perfume rather than that of essential oil. In contrasty, after using the
product the volunteers were satisfied with essential oil rather than that of synthetic perfume. This
might be due to the refreshing effect of natural essential oil upon smelling. Therefore, for the
development of bath bomb product used in spa business, it must be considerate to blend various
essential oils with different notes in the formulation for obtaining the most harmonizing smell
sensation that satisfied the users upon smelling.
