Abstract:
This research aimed to investigate the education management and future development process for education management of Civil Affairs School. Four factors were studied namely, the curriculum, the instructors, the students and the evaluation process. The qualitative research method was used to collect the data from various resources including journals, publications, research papers, in-depth interviews with 16 instructors and brainstorming sessions between the chiefs of the 5 Learning Sections from the school.
The research has shown that the curriculum set by the school does not put enough emphasis on the actual application of the taught theories but rather the subject details. Most graduates could not use what they have learned from the school to solve the problems. However, by changing the curriculum to encourage students to participate in their classes, such as by increase the hours for group seminars where students are required to exchange their opinions as well as presenting their summary findings at the end of each session, will improve the effectiveness of the curriculum. At present, most of the instructors still lack the required knowledge to teach their assigned subjects as most of them are used to administrative works and have not been trained as instructors. This problem can be solved by providing additional support and assistance for these instructors to acquire more knowledge, capabilities and to gain more experience to develop themselves as instructors. As a result, they will be more accepted, trusted and capable of leading the students. In addition, the screening process for the students must be more effective to ensure that the students are capable, knowledgeable and ready to learn. The screening process should consider the students backgrounds and their past academic experiences. This will ensure that all students have similar backgrounds and reduce the knowledge gap among students. Finally, the evaluation process must be reconsidered and carried out as accurately as possible. Additional methods for evaluating students should include observations and interviews when applicable. The most important factor to keep in mind is that the process must be done fairly, ethically, and truthfully.
From these findings, it is conclusive that all of the four factors are connected and must be considered as one. The development of education management must be a process that integrates all these factors together. However, each factor must be prioritized and clear objectives must be established.
