Problems in narcotic prevention operations in secondary schools under the Jurisdiction of the Department of General Education in Buriram as perceived by school administrators, vice-principal of disciplinary affairs, the chief of supression and control of narcotics
Abstract:
The purposes of this research were to study and compare problems in narcotic prevention operations in secondary schools under the jurisdiction of general education in Buriram. The participants of this study were 68 administrators, 68 vice-principal of disciplinary offairs, and 68 chiefs of suppression and control of narcotics. The samples consisted of all participants. The research instrument was a questionnaire with 3 characteristics : check list, rating scales, and open-ended question. The statistic used to analyze the data were percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way analysis of variance. The findings of this study were below. 1. The problems of narcotic prevention operation in secondary school as perceived by the school administrators, Vice-principal of disciplinary affairs, and chiefs of suppression and control of narcotics were at the average level. The problem which was at the highest level was a narcotic resistance campaign, while the problems which were at the moderate level were coordinating, teaching students about drugs, giving information on drugs, practicing life skills to prevent drugs, and selected activities for drugs suppression. 2. The school administrators, the vice-principal of disciplinary affairs, and the chief of narcotic suppression and control of narcotics had different opinions about narcotic resistant campaign of .05 statistical significant level. However , they did not have different view points about coordinating, teaching, giving information, life skill practicing, and selected activities organizing. In addition, the participants who worked in town and out of town did not have different opinions on the whole problems. 3. The participants who worked in different size schools had different opinions on the drug suppression problems at .05 statistical significant level. 4. The participants who worked in big schools had different opinions on the problems at .05 statistical significant level comparing to the opinions of those samples who worked in medium size schools. This level of difference was also found when comparing the opinions of participants in medium size schools with the participants in small schools. In contrast, the opinions of big schools participants and small school participants were not different. 5. The participants suggested the first 3 consecutive problems of the drug suppression administering : 1) inadequate budgets, 2) laeking of urine examining devices, and 3) the parents did not give a cooperation. 6. The participants found the first 3 consecutive problems that they could not solve. Those problems were 1) improper places for students outside the schools, 2) outside factor such as students family problems, parents divorcing, and warmless feeling in the families, and 3) the parents did not accept the truth about their children. 7. The participants suggested the first 3 possible consecutive resolutions : 1) treating the students friendly, 2) organizing an effective system to help students, and 3) giving good, warm care to students who took drugs. 8. The participants suggested the government the following first 3 resolutions : 1) the government must suppress the drugs selling and using continuously and seriously, and construct strong and united communities, 2) schools should also take this project into account continuously and seriously, and 3) the successful schools should be praised
