Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to investigate and compare the current situation and expectation
of both formal and non-formal educational management systems of champasak province, Lao peoples democratic republic. The samples used for the research were selected by multi-stage random sampling from administrators, administrators assistants and the teachers from formal and non-formal education, totally 350 and 34 persons, respectively. Tool used for data gathering was the rating scale questionnaire with approximately 8 categories in 48 questions which were divided into two set : formal educational system set and non-formal educational system set with the reliability at 0.87 with
the reliability at 0.82. The statistical methods used for data analysis were percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation and t-test
The results showed that the current situation of 8 categories of the formal educational management system such in curriculum, curriculum application, personnel factors, building factors,
financial factors, material and equipment, educational management and learning achievement were
totally in moderate level. When considering each detail the material in factor was in low level. The expectation of educational management, in general, was in high level and the curriculum application obtained the highest degree of mean. The opinion of administrators, administrators assistants and
teachers on the current situation of the non-formal educational system, in general, and in each detail
showed moderate level. The expectation of management system, in all categories, showed a high level. The highest level of mean was on curriculum application.
The comparison between current situation and expectation of educational management system of formal and non-formal educational systems showed a result statistically significant at different 0.01. The expectations educational of management showed much higher level than the current situation in all categories.
The results of the research will be applied to provide knowledge to areas in and around the
Lao peoples democratic republic, particularly related to the activities in both formal and non-formal education. It can also be beneficial for further improvement in education.
