Multivariate attribute p chart for both correlated and uncorrelated quality characteristics
Abstract:
In the manufacturing industry, the significant factor, which affects the business is the quality of product. Due to tough ompetitiveness among industrial business, manufacturers must produce products in accordance with the quality and standard. One of the most owerful tools in quality control is the statistical control chart. Since an attribute control chart can display the overall picture and rough idea of the process, it is widely used to give the information as to when and where to emphasize on for quality improvement. In addition, in the situation being compulsory to deal with multivariate data, the multivariate fraction nonconforming control chart is needed.Hence, this research aims to propose the control chart, which puts every quality characteristics into a single chart called multivariate p chart. The comparison of performance and effectiveness of multivariate p chart and univariate p chart is considered by expected number of samples that need to be collected before detecting the first out-of-control signal, the average run length (ARL). The result indicates that multivariate p chart can precisely detect the shift of manufacturing process much quicker than univariate p chart. Besides, the producer's risk and the consumer's risk of proposed control chart are less than those of univariate p chart. However, the multivariate p chart is advantageous in that it can be applied with variable-sample size data. In interpreting the out-of-control signal, decomposition T2 approach is used to find the quality characteristic that significantly contributes to the out-of-control condition. Therefore, quality characteristic, which is mostly responsible for out-of-control signal will be emphasized on andconsequently the assignable cause will be determined and eliminated.
