Abstract:
The purposes of this research were 1) to develop a toolkit for the measurement of desirable characteristics in lower secondary school students. 2) to investigate the quality of the constructed toolkit. 3) to provide criteria for national norms using the toolkit for measuring desirable characteristics in lower secondary students. The samples were 987 M 1 - M 3 students in academic year 2551 and 25 homeroom teachers. The research toolkit consisted of a 4-choice situation test form and a 5-point Likert scale behavior evaluation form. The toolkit contained 9 desirable characteristics; 1) Discipline, 2) Honesty, 3) Being economical, 4) Kindness, 5) Attention to study, 6) Gratefulness, 7) Patience, 8) Thai Proudness and 9) Environmental Awareness. Data were analyzed by items analysis; discrimination through B-Index, reliability coefficient through SPSS for Windows and confirmatory factor analysis through LISREL. The research results were divided as below:- 1. The content validity of items was analyzed by Content Validity Ratio (CVR), and selected items were met a criteria (CVR ≥ 0.62). The result of the toolkit consisted of situation test and behavior evaluation forms which were divided 9 desirable characteristics, 10 items per a desirable characteristic. 2. The results of the discrimination and the reliability analysis of situation test and behavior evaluation forms by the Classical Test Theory showed that the situation test provided discrimination were 9 desirable characteristics; discipline, honesty, being economical, kindness, attention to study, gratefulness, patience, Thai proudness, and environment awareness found discrimination of the items were in the range 5.07 - 34.24, 6.97 - 21.16, 6.20 - 14.76, 10.58 - 15.55, 10.90 - 19.95, 7.63 - 16.95, 10.07 - 20.91, 10.05 - 21.09 and 12.39 - 18.85, respectively at the .01 significant level, and the situation test provided Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient were 9 desirable characteristics of .65, .67, .66, .66, .76, .75, .75, .66 and .83, respectively. The behavior evaluation form provided Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient were 9 desirable characteristics of .90, .89, .91, .89, .89, .86, .91, .90 and .93, respectively. 3. The construct validity was confirmed by using confirmatory factor analysis through LISREL. The results of the situation test form and the behavior evaluation form 9 model were fit to the empirical data. 4. The national norms of the situation test of 9 desirable characteristics were in the range of T17 - T63, T22 - T65, T17 - T71, T17 - T71, T17 - T60, T17 - T72, T19 - T83, T17 - T81 and T21 - T66, respectively. And the national norms of the behavior evaluation of 9 desirable characteristics were in the range of T20 - T64, T17 - T64, T19 - T66, T19 - T70, T17 - T66, T20 - T65, T19 - T65, T23 - T65 and T19 - T66, respectively.
