Abstract:
The purposes of this descriptive research were (1) to study the metacognition process through weblogs communication in problem-based learning of ninth grade students and (2) to study students opinions about weblogs and students weblogs behavior during problem-based learning. The sample were 12 ninth-grade students with different levels of metacognition. Data were collected from students reflective weblogs, self-assessment metacognition forms, and questionnaires. The qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis methods and the quantitative data were analyzed by percentage, means, and standard deviation. The research finding were as follows: 1. Students who had different levels of metacognition had different metacognition processes. The high metacognition students started their problem-solving process themselves by planning and writing down their thinking map to see through holistic problems before started searching and using theory and logic to analyze reflectively to reach reasonable conclusion. The middle level of metacognition students started their problem-solving process by analyzing causes of problems and seeking information in the first few steps; during the process they turned to ask helps from teachers, experts or related resources as their baseline data for problem-solving and decision making. While the most of low level metacognition students started their problem-solving process by asking helps form close resources first and using their old experiences to transfer to the new problems. 2. Students opinion about weblogs communications consisted of three components as follow: 1) Attitude to weblogs; students agreed that using weblogs had more benefits, writing and reading other weblogs helped them to gain useful sources, and be an up-to-date person. 2) Metacognition; reflective writing blogs effected to students internal motivation that students felt they were part of learning continually and it helped them to be more systematic working processes in problem-based learning 3) Opinions to reflective blogs were : (3.1) as a channel to view other people ideas (3.2) as a learning tool to help students record and review their working process (3.3) as a new communication medium to exchange opinions with others and (4) opinions to weblogs were : (4.1) as an additional communication medium to build up a good relationship between teachers and studens and (4.2) as an enjoyment tool and (4.3) as a medium to help students learn more HTML skills to decorate their own creative weblogs.
