Abstract:
The purposes of this descriptive research were to determine nursing needs demanded by patient in each classification, and to determine the appropriate staffing in in-patient unit based on nursing needs, Banmoh hospital. Research samples consisted of 17 nursing staffs, which were 11 registered nurses, 2 technical nurses, 4 nurse aids, 5 nurse administrators, and 245 patients. Research instruments were in-patient classification checklist, nursing care time checklist, and nursing activities checklist. All checklists were tested for content validity and their interater reliability score were .99, .99 and .98, respectively. The major findings were as follows : 1. The average nursing time required in 24 hours for patients in category 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 were 1.52 hours, 3 hours, 4.64 hours, 7.15 hours and 9.86, respectively. 2. The numbers of nursing personnel needed in in-patient unit based on nursing needs were 24 nursing staffs, composed of 10 registered nurses, 9 technical nurses, and 5 nurse aids. 3.
