Abstract:
The objectives of this independent study were to study leadership styles of branch managers and Subordinates' job satisfaction and the relationship between branch managers' leadership styles and subordinates' satisfaction. This study surveyed 174 employees of the Siam Commercial Bank Public Limited in Surat Thani area. The SPSS for WINDOWS was used for the fllowing analyses: percentage, mean, standard deviation and correlation coefficient.
The results of the study showed:
1. The leadership of the branch managers was overall at the average level. The initiative leadership style was shown to be high whereas the leadership considerateness was at the average level.
2. The employees' overall satisfaction of their working environment was at the average level. The satisfaction of the motivation factors, which, ranked from the strongest to the weakest factors, included respect, responsibi ties, progression in career path, job achievement and job features, were at the moderate level. The satisfaction of the employees with the supporting factors, ranking from the strongest factors to the weakest one, were: job security, policy and management, relationship with colleaguse, working environment, relationship with employers, job condition, salary, opportunities in career path and personal lifestyle, respectively.
3. Regarding the relationship between the branch manager's leadership styles and subordinates' satisfaction, the study showed that 2 leadership style, including the initiation and the considerateness, were positively related to 5 factors of motivation: job achievement, respect, job features, responsibilities and progression. The relation strength was at the statistic significance of .05. Moerover, both lesdership styles were also positively related to 9 out 10 supporting favtors: salary, promotion opportunities, relationship with superiors, relationship with colleagues, professional standing, administrative system, policies and management, work environment, job security and personal lifestyle. The relation between the 2 leadership styles and the 9 supporting factors was at the statistic significance of .05 as well. The only factor that was found ot be insignificantly, though positively, related to the 2 leadership style was personal lifestyle.
