Research and development of a junior entrepreneur curriculum based on cognitive apprenticeship approach to enhance business competence of upper secondary school students
Abstract:
The objectives of this research were to develop the junior entrepreneur curriculum based on cognitive apprenticeship approach for enhancing business competence of the students studying in upper secondary school, and to examine the effectiveness of the junior entrepreneur curriculum. The target group was 38 students study in Mattayom 5 (grade 11) at Saipanya school, selected by purposive sampling technique. The experimental duration was 18 weeks with the total of 36 hours (2 hours a week). The main methods of collecting data were verified by using (posttest) of the knowledge comprehensions, behaviors observation and evaluation, portfolios of the practice in business operation. The data were statistically analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and the examine of the curriculum effectiveness using E1/E2. Research findings were as the followings: 1. This junior entrepreneur curriculum consist of 9 components; 1) the curriculum vision, 2) mission, 3) standards and indicators, 4) content, 5) course description which included of learning unit, sub-learning unit, and structure of the learning time table, 6) learning process; 7) learning measurement and evaluation; 8) learning resources; 9) the evaluation of the curriculum effectiveness. The unique of the junior entrepreneur curriculum was the content that developed from the students needs and the authentic situation of the business operations. This real practicing of the learners based on the cognitive apprenticeship approach and progressivism will be the sustainable benefit for the learners. The entrepreneur content consists of 5 contents 1) the staring of entrepreneur, 2) the leading of the entrepreneur operators, 3) the actual entrepreneur operators, 4) financial and accounting of the business, 5) the growth of the entrepreneur. 2. The experimental result of the junior entrepreneur curriculum found that after the experiment, the learners knowledge and comprehensions relate with business, and the ability of businesss skills by the average score higher than 60 % by a significant level of .05. Moreover, the driving force of business behaviors statistically significant at .05 level, the efficacy criteria set at 80/80.
