Abstract:
This research aimed 1) to study processes of creating, preserving and teaching Thai traditional paintings, 2) to develop contemporary Thai painting course for the Bachelor of Art Education Program. This research and development project used 3 purposive sampling groups: First, specialists in 5categories, including instructors of Thai painting from Art Education Program; instructors of Thai paintings from the Bachelor of Visual Art Program; contemporary Thai artists with experience in creating Thai art; Thai painting conservators; art historians and art theoreticians. Second, 2 higher education institutes which teach Thai painting in an art education program. Third, undergraduate students in a Bachelor of Art Education program. Research tools included interview question, teaching observation, behavioral observation, painting evaluation, satisfaction assessment, and course approval forms. The research result showed that the Conservative Contemporary Thai Painting Course consisted of 5 components 1) Learning objectivesto provide students with knowledge of Thai traditional painting, conservation processes of Thai traditional painting, Thai contemporary paintings, both in theory and practice, in order to enable the students to develop conservative Thai contemporary paintings. 2) Contents In Thai traditional painting aspect: values of forms, contents and techniques; In Thai paintings conservation aspect: preventive conservation, and conservation in forms of education and publication. In contemporary Thai painting aspect: guidelines and methods of creating Thai contemporary art. 3) Teaching methodslecturing, demonstration, students self-practice, and educational field trips. 4) Teaching media Thai traditional art materials, illustrations and authentic samples of artworks, historical sites, materials and working activities in Thai traditional art institutes. 5) Evaluations For Cognitive Domain: evaluating students knowledge on values of Thai traditional painting, principles of Thai traditional painting conservation. For Psychomotor Domain: evaluating practical skills in creating Thai contemporary painting. For Affective Domain: evaluating from students working process, complete work of art, and presentation of its values. The overall evaluation result of students artworks created during the teaching experimentation with principal activities from the subject developed from this research was Excellent. In terms of content implication in the creative process, students succeeded in applying knowledge of Thai social and cultural wisdoms to produce their art works. In terms of working processes, students scored highest in the aspect of selecting suitable materials. In terms of creation of artwork, students scored highest in the aspect of completeness of final work. The result of students satisfaction assessment after the experimentation rated Highly Satisfied (x= 4.88). The aspects of the assessment rated the highest were teaching media used for teachers demonstration and for students self-practice. Lastly, the course developed from this research was assessed by 3 experts. The course was certified with the score at the highest level.
