The Development of English Activity Based Curriculum to Enhance English Listening and Speaking Skills for the Star Power Academy Football Players Chiang Rai Under the Age of 12
Abstract:
The development of an English activity-based curriculum to enhance English listening and speaking skills for football players under the age of 12 at the Star Power Academy Chiang Rai. Objectives of the study were as follows: to develop an English activity-based curriculum to enhance English listening and speaking skills for football players under the age of 12 at the Star Power Academy Chiang Rai. The population consisted of 155 Star Power Academy Chiang Rai football players in 2020. The sample of the study is 30 football players, age 10-12 years old chosen by specific method. The instrumental consisted of the observation form, questionnaire, English listening and speaking skills test, the curriculum to enhance English listening and speaking skills, English listening skills and English speaking skills assessment and satisfaction questionnaire. The data analysis comprised the content, distribution of frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The results revealed that: 1) The fundamentals of development of English listening and speaking of the Star Power Academy football players Chiang Rai under the age of 12 (U-12). The most common listening problem is with English technical words for football; this was at a high level. The most common speaking problem is due to unfamilliarity with vocabulary; this was also at a high level. The needs of improving English listening and speaking skills was at a moderate level and the instructions of the trainer on the use of football technical vocabulary in English is at a high level. The results for measuring English listening and speaking skills of the Star Power Academy football players Chiang Rai under the age of 12 (U-12) was at a moderate level. 2) The curriculum to enhance English listening and speaking skills with 5 units, 30 hours and seven curriculum elements: Principle, Purpose, Content, Curriculum structure, Learning activities, Learning materials and Measurement and evaluation. The experts assessed the suitability at the highest level. 3) English listening and speaking skills of football players, found that 50% of them passed the English listening assessment criteria and 43.40 % of football players passed the English speaking assessment criteria, according to the criteria set at 60% 4) The satisfaction of the football players with the course was at a moderate level.
