Influence of anisotropy in springback for ultra high strength steel sheet (JSC 980Y) by u-bending
Abstract:
Ultra high strength steels (UHSS) recently play an important role in the automotive industries because they can provide higher strength to weight ratios for structural parts of automobiles. However, the structural parts made of UHSS show higher springback effect than that manufactured by using normal grade steels. Moreover, the variations of the incoming material, such as anisotropy of material and process condition could cause the differences in the springback behavior. In this study, the springback of dual phase JSC 980Y was investigated by using the experimental base methods. The experiments were conducted by considering the influence of material anisotropy on the springback behavior of JSC 980Y by conducting the simplified U profile test referenced in the Numisheet'2011. The parameters, such as blank holding pressure and punch radius, were varied to investigate the effect of springback occurring due to the anisotropic material behavior. In addition, the strain measurements were conducted to measure strain distributions after springback to evaluate the strain behavior (major and minor strains) after unloading. The results demonstrated that the variation of springback was significantly affected by the orientation of the sheet in U-die bending. Therefore, the automotive industry should consider these parameters in order to reduce/eliminate the springback problem during the process and die design.
