Abstract:
The objective of this research was to understand the signification of the infographics on
corruption issues. This qualitative research employed text analysis to analyze 45 pieces of
infographics appeared in Kid Yok Kamlang Song, aired from May 22, 2014 to May 22, 2018, along with in-depth interviews with the producers of those pieces.
The results showed seven corruption forms manifested in the programs infographics as
follows: 1) personal corruption, bribery, and astronomical gift cheques; 2) privatization; 3)
abdication including bid rigging and rigging prices in procurement; 4) seeking economic rent from inefficient rules and measures, resulting in monopoly and concession; 5) conflict of interest and exercising power to gain personal/one own groups benefits, 6) bending the rules and regulations with bias; and 7) patronage system and populism. Symbols and representations were used in the infographics to signify the abstract definitions of acts of corruption and to visualize them in concrete forms through illustrations with textual descriptions with meanings and details.
The features of concepts behind the designs of infographics included: 1) the presentation of public policy, 2) the use of infographics as a tool for presenting public policy, 3) an emphasis of the construction of knowledge and understanding of problems, 4) signification through analogy and metaphor, 5) avoidance of using colors that denote or provoke emotions, 6) reference to the source of information, and 7) the provision of recommendation and solution
