A FACULTY DEVELOPMENT MODEL OF HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN NORTH CENTRAL VIETNAMA FACULTY DEVELOPMENT MODEL OF HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS IN NORTH CENTRAL VIETNAM
Abstract:
ABSTRACT
This research design was research and development and the research purpose was 1) to study current conditions and needs for faculty development of higher education institutions in north central Vietnam, 2) to construct a faculty development model of higher education institutions in north central Vietnam and 3) to evaluate the constructed faculty development model of higher education institutions in north central Vietnam.
Research methodology was divided into 3 phases which comprised: phase 1, reviewing concepts, theories, principles and related research concerning faculty development models of higher education and survey study of current conditions and needs for faculty development. The sample was 308 administrators and faculty of higher education institutions in north central Vietnam, including the interview of 6 higher education administrators. Phase 2, data analysis and synthesis from phase 1 were utilized to construct a draft faculty development model of higher education institutions in north central Vietnam. Phase 3, appropriateness, possibility and usefulness of the constructed faculty development model was evaluated by 9 experts using a faculty development model assessment form.
Based upon the finding of the study, it could be concluded that: a faculty development model of higher education institutions in north central Vietnam consisted of 2 main components with 11 parts. The first was faculty development component which divided into 4 parts, including: 1) teaching, 2) research, 3) academic service and 4) self development. The second was supported staff development component with 7 parts, including: 1) policy formulation, 2) strategic planning, 3) budget support, 4) encouragement, 5) training meeting and seminar 6) constructing network and 7) application of research results.
