Measurement and evaluation problems of grade one and two in the Elementary Schools under the Auspices of Kanchanaburi Provincial Administrative Organization
Abstract:
Purposes ; 1. To survey the general atmosphere and current problems concerning the measurement and evaluation of the learning outcomes among grade one and two students in the elementary schools under the auspices of Kanchanaburi Provincial Administrative- Organization 2.To study the opinions and suggestions of the Prathom one, and two classroom teachers concerning the measurement and evaluation process according to the Elementary Education Curriculum B. E. 2521. Procedure The instrument conducted in this study was a set of questionnaire which had been constructed, tested and improved by the researcher. In order to provide-, the researches with necessary information, this set of questionnaire was divided into three parts . general background of the responsers and situation of measurement and evaluation, problems perceived, by responsers.. and questions motivated opinions and suggestions of Prathom one and two classroom-teachers. The forms of questionnaire were multiple-choice, rating scale and opened end types. Four hundred and ten questionnaires were distributed to randomly selected samples of 205 Prathom one and 205 Prathom two classroom teachers. Of these, three hundred and eighty-six-or 94. 15 percent were completed and returned. The returned, data was statistically analyzed, using percentage, mean and standard deviation. Findings ; Analysis of the data resulted in the following findings. 1.Prathom one and two teachers often let the students do exercises during the teaching hour, and turn in their homework assignment1 Both these exercises and assignment were used as the assessment process. The criteria for evaluating the learning outcomes derived from the exercises and assignment were set by the teachers. The measurement and evaluation activities-often did .by the teachers were to report the learning outcome to the students themselves and their parents. The tests were constructed mainly by the teachers, 2.Prathom one and two "teachers reported strongly that they had problem understanding the way to utilize the formative evaluation. They indicated difficulty intransferring the learning objectives to behavioral forms. In addition they reported the difficulty in the after-class measurement, the final-examination coustruction, the selection of the suitable evaluation instrument,the organization of learning hour for measurement, the construction .of the interview forms and 'checklists,, the analysis of the tests, and the access to the measurement equipment with in the school. 3. Prathom one and two teachers agreed upon the objectives of the measurement, 'the method of measurement and its operation according to' the Elementary Education Curriculum B. E. 2521. In addition, the Prathom one and two classroom teachers had some suggestions concerning measurement and evalation as the followings. 1. The teachers should be trained in the area of measurement and evaluation, both its methods and practices according to the require¬ment of the Elementary Education Curriculum B. E. 2521. 2. The number of children in a classroom should be reduced so as to eliminate the density problem, 3. The teacher should organize a remedial teaching session for the students who couldnt meet the learning criteria and should allow for a re-test which would be flexible enough regarding the methods to watch the students' abilities. 4. A school should facilitate the teachers with the necessary measurement and evaluation equipment. 5. A Co-operation effort should be initiated among schools so as to constructed a basic test to be used by the teachers.
