Abstract:
The objectives of this research were to study the characteristics of the professional school administrators under the Primary Educational Service Area Office and to compare these characteristics as classified by education level, work experience and school size. The sample for this research consisted of 400 teachers working in basic education schools under the Primary Educational Service Area Office in the academic year 2015. The sample size was obtained using Yamanes formula at the error level of 0.05. The sample was selected by proportional stratified random sampling and simple random sampling. The research instrument used in this research was a 5-level rating scale questionnaire with an IOC between 0.60 to 1.00 at the reliability of 0.94. The statistics used to analyze the data were percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test. The research findings showed that: 1. The characteristics of the professional school administrators under the Primary Educational Service Area Office were, overall, at a high level. Considering each aspect individually revealed that the highest means were the personality ( = 4.48, S.D. = 0.47), followed by knowledge and ability of the administration ( = 4.34, S.D. = 0.45) and the lowest means were morality and ethics ( = 4.25, S.D. = 0.40). 2. The comparison of the characteristics of the professional school administrators under the Primary Educational Service Area Office classified by education level, showed that overall 1) there was no difference except for the aspect of knowledge and ability of the administration, at the statistical significance level of 0.05, 2) the comparison of the characteristics of the professional school administrators under the Primary Educational Service Area Office, classified by work experience produced differences overall but not for individual aspects at the statistical significance level of 0.05, and 3) the comparison of the characteristics of the professional school administrators under the Primary Educational Service Area Office, classified by school size, showed that, overall, there were differences at the statistical significance level of 0.05.
