Abstract: This Study aims to investigate the effectiveness of reading strategies on Chinese reading comprehension of Chinese major students in Faculty of Humanities at Chiangrai Rajabhat University. To secure the reliability of the results in the study, both observations and interview methods were conducted. The researcher made a survey on 105 third-year-Chinese-major students in Chinese reading course. Their reading strategies were then interviewed and analyzed, the correlation between reading strategies and reading proficiency was calculated. According to the total mark for the reading comprehension test within eight weeks, 36 Thai students (18 successful Thai readers and unsuccessful Thai readers) with 1 teacher were specially invited to participate as target subjects in an in-dept. The result showed that reading strategies the students used are different across the 2 groups of subjects. It enhanced student’s reading competence by encouraging and guiding students to apply appropriate reading strategies. The thesis will provide high valuable recommendations for Chinese teachers and Chinese language learners, the clubes for further researchers into reading strategies.
