Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the supply chain management in orange orchard. This research studied current problems, which occurred in procedures of managing the supply chain. The study also focuses on improvement of supply chain management in orangeorchard, adopted the 8 wastes to understand root problems.
The study found many complicated activities in harvesting. Moreover, the organization could not use men power at highest capacity. From the data collection, the case study found that the capacity of ten workerscould harvest 100 baskets of orange per day. In addition, there were 4 out of 100 baskets considered as wastes in the harvesting process, which valued at 14,080 Thai baht per year per Rai or 3.85 percent of total productivity. Furthermore, the researcher analyzed the data to findpossible cost reduction of harvesting to improve performanceof by using Motion and Time approach.
The result demonstrated thatcosts was reduced, at the valued of 13,360 Thai baht per year per Rai. The costsincluded manpower in procedure of harvesting, originally 40 people for harvesting; valued at 11,200 Thai baht per year per Rai. After the study, the orange orchard farm only used 30 people for harvesting process Thus, the cost was reduced by 2,800 Thai baht per year per Rai, which was valued at 25 percent of cost yielding per year per Rai. Secondly, the costs arisen from waste in harvesting procedure. There were wastes offour out of 100 baskets of orange in the harvesting process, which was valued at 3.85 percent of productivity in harvesting. After the study, the guideline could help the farm to reduce 0.99 percent of productivity in harvesting process. The value of cost reduction was at 10,560 Thai baht per year per Rai, which was valued at 2.86 percent.
