An analysis and review of the content in an English academic journal - PASAA, 1989-1999.

Abstract: Educational document likes an academic journal is a significant indicators of both advancement and areas of interest in a given field. This paper has a purpose to analyze the content and classify all the subjects covered in the PASAA journal in the past ten years, during 1989-1999, in order to reflect the movement of English language in Thai Society. Besides, some selective topics are reviewed and pointed out the crucial ideas embedded in that context. Analysis based on specified categories derived from four major domains reveals that the domain of teaching and education has been the most popular in the last ten years and that it will probably increase an importance in the future. However, the domain of language and society, language application and linguistics which possessed fewer items inthe past indicating the less attention is paid on these issues by scholars. The fmdings of this paper provide for a better understanding of the process, and progress of English teaching and learning during 1989-1999.It is recommended that further study should analyze in detail of the theories, concepts, suggestions and solutions presented in PASAA journal in order to trace the academic development of that subject. Besides, it would be beneficial to study the use of academic language patterns and the writing style for this type of journal. The review of content of other academic journals is interesting to analyze.
