Dialect geography of Khammueang Lampang : A tonal study

Abstract: The objectives of this investigation are to study the differences in the tone system of Khammueang Lampang at the present time compared with the previous studies and to draw the geographical linguistic maps of Khammueang Lampang. The data are collected from 13 districts. A total number of 39 informants were used with three representatives from one district. The boxes devised by William J.Gedney (1972) are utilized for the investigation of tone split. Both auditory and instrumental judgments are used in order to analyze the data. For instrumental analysis, this research uses PRAAT version 4.2.34. The findings reveal that there are 6 tones in Khammueang Lampang. The dialects can be classified into 2 groups according to the tone system and the tone characteristics.The tone characteristics in A34 and C4 can be divided into two groups: A34 in Group I is mid sustained rising while Group II is low-rising-falling. The tone characteristics of C4 in Group I are mid-rising-falling with glottalization while Group II is mid-rising and slightly falling in final syllable and ending with glottalization. The tone system can be divided into two groups: The tone system in Group I is A34 = DS 123 whereas the tone system in Group II is A 12 = DS 123. From these results Khammueang Lampang can be classified into two sub-dialects. Khammueang Lampang dialect Group I which is widely spoken in 11 districts: Wang Nuea (WN), Mueang Pan (MP), Chae Hom (CH), Ngao (NG), Hang Chat (HCH), Mueang (M), Mae Mo (MM), Soem Ngam (SNG), Ko Kha (KKH), Mae Tha (MTH) and Sop Prap (SP), and Group II generally spoken in two districts: Thoen (TH) and Mae Phrik (MPH).

Abstract: การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความแตกต่างของระบบเสียงวรรณยุกต์ของภาษาคำ เมืองลำปางในปัจจุบันเพื่อเปรียบเทียบกับงานที่ผ่านมาและนำผลที่ได้มาใช้เป็นเกณฑ์ในการทำ แผนที่ทางภาษาศาสตร์ของภาษาคำเมืองลำปาง การศึกษาครั้งนี้ได้กำหนดจุดเก็บรวม 13 อำเภอ เก็บข้อมูลจากผู้บอกภาษาทั้งหมด 39 คน โดยแบ่งเป็นหมู่บ้านละ 3 คน โดยใช้ตารางคำทดสอบ เสียงวรรณยุกต์ของ วิลเลียม เจ เก็ดนีย์ ข้อมูลที่ได้จะนำมาวิเคราะห์ด้วยการฟังและเครื่องมือ เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์คือโปรแกรม PRAAT Version 4.2.34. ผลการวิเคราะห์พบว่า ภาษาคำเมืองลำปางมีจำนวนเสียงวรรณยุกต์ 6 หน่วยเสียง สามารถ จัดกลุ่มภาษาถิ่นได้เป็น 2 กลุ่ม จากระบบเสียงวรรณยุกต์ A34 และ C4 สามารถแบ่งออกเป็น 2 กลุ่มคือ สัทลักษณะของวรรณยุกต์ในช่อง A34 กลุ่ม 1 ได้แก่ เสียงกลางระดับ ขึ้นสูง ในขณะที่ กลุ่ม 2 เป็นเสียง ต่ำ-ขึ้น-ตก สัทลักษณะของวรรณยุกต์ในช่อง C4 กลุ่ม 1 ได้แก่ กลาง-ขึ้น-ตก ตามด้วยการกักของเส้นเสียง ในขณะที่กลุ่ม 2 เป็นเสียง กลาง-ขึ้น-ตกในพยัญชนะท้ายและตามด้วย การกักของเส้นเสียง ระบบเสียงวรรณยุกต์แบ่งได้ 2 กลุ่ม กลุ่ม 1 ได้แก่ A34 = DS 123 ระบบ เสียงวรรณยุกต์กลุ่ม 2 ได้แก่ A 12 = DS 123 จากผลการวิเคราะห์ภาษาคำเมืองลำปางสามารถ แบ่งออกเป็น 2 ภาษาถิ่นย่อย ซึ่งประกอบไปด้วย กลุ่ม 1 ได้แก่อำเภอวังเหนือ อำเภอ เมืองปาน อำเภอแจ้ห่ม อำเภองาว อำเภอห้างฉัตร อำเภอเมือง อำเภอแม่เมาะ อำเภอเสริมงาม อำเภอ เกาะคา อำเภอแม่ทะและอำเภอสบปราบ ภาษาถิ่นย่อยกลุ่มที่ 2 ประกอบด้วย อำเภอเถินและอำเภอ แม่พริก
