Abstract: The purpose of this research was to investigate the forms and functions of particles found in Green Hmong discourse. The data used consisted of both monologues and dialogues recorded on 12 audio tapes. The frameworks used were those presented by Searle (1976), Levinson (1983), Fuller (1988), Li (1990) and Longacre (1996). Results revealed that there are grammatical, discourse, and pragmatic particles in Green Hmong, which can occur in the initial, medial, and final position of an utterance. Of these grammatical particles, three particles LOS, PUAS, and SUB are found converting a statement into a yes-no question. Of the discourse particles, four particles are found functioning as topic markers: ES, MAS, NUA and TES; three particles ES, MAS, and TES are found marking the storyline of the discourse; and ten particles including YOG “if” are found functioning as conjunctions. Of the pragmatic particles, three initial particles AB, AUB, and HAV are found as interjections; and other five particles AWJ, ES, HOJ, OV, and W are discourse markers. Moreover, eighteen final particles are found involved with speech acts. They are classified into three subgroups. The first group is those which have an effect of either increasing or softening the illocutionary force of the utterance such as AUJ, ES, HUAS, LE, NA, etc; the second is those expressing the psychological state of the speaker such as AWJ or KAJ; and the last group is those occurring with particular utterances such as replies to questions or summons such as HAWJ, LOSMAJ, NAWJ, or OS; or leave-taking or thanking expressions, NAWJ for example

Abstract: การศึกษาครั้งนี้เป็นการสำรวจและวิเคราะห์รูปและหน้าที่ของอนุภาคที่พบในปริจเฉท ภาษาม้งเขียว ข้อมูลภาษาที่ใช้ประกอบไปด้วยบทสนทนาและเรื่องเล่านิทานบันทึกในแถบ บันทึกเสียงจำนวน 12 ม้วน วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยใช้แนวทางของเซิร์ล (1976), เลวินสัน (1983), ฟูลเลอร์ (1988), ลี (1990) และ ลองเอเคอร์ (1996) ผลการศึกษาพบว่าภาษาม้งเขียวมีอนุภาคที่ทำหน้าที่ทางไวยากรณ์, ปริจเฉท, และวัจน ปฏิบัติศาสตร์ซึ่งปรากฏในตำแหน่งต้น, กลาง, และท้ายถ้อยคำ ผู้วิจัยพบว่าอนุภาค LOS, PUAS, และ SUB ทำหน้าที่เปลี่ยนประโยคบอกเล่าเป็นประโยคคำถาม อนุภาค ES, MAS, NUA, และ TES เป็นอนุภาคแสดงแก่นความ อนุภาค ES, MAS, และ TES เป็นอนุภาคแสดงส่วนเนื้อเรื่อง ของปริจเฉท และพบอนุภาคอื่นๆอีก 10 อนุภาครวมทั้ง YOG “ถ้า” ทำหน้าที่เป็นสันธาน อนุภาค ที่ปรากฏต้นถ้อยคำ AB, AUB, และ HAV ทำหน้าที่เป็นคำอุทาน และอนุภาค AWJ, ES, HOJ, OV, และ W ทำหน้าที่เป็นรูปแสดงปริจเฉท นอกจากนี้ผู้วิจัยพบอนุภาคลงท้าย18 อนุภาค เกี่ยวข้องกับวัจนกรรม อนุภาคเหล่านี้ถูกแบ่งออกเป็น 3 กลุ่มด้วยกัน กลุ่มแรกคืออนุภาคที่ เกี่ยวข้องกับการเพิ่มหรือลดน้ำหนักของถ้อยคำ เช่น AUJ, ES, HUAS, LE, NA เป็นต้น กลุ่มที่ สองเป็นกลุ่มที่แสดงสภาพจิตใจของผู้พูดเช่น AWJ หรือ KAJ เป็นต้น กลุ่มที่สามเป็นกลุ่มที่ ปรากฏกับถ้อยคำบางประเภท อาทิเช่น ถ้อยคำตอบรับการถามหรือการเรียก เช่น HAWJ, LOSMAJ, NAWJ, หรือ OS เป็นต้น หรือ ถ้อยคำที่แสดงการลาจาก หรือ ขอบคุณ เช่น NAWJ เป็นต้น
