Alcohol consumption behavior and activities : an analysis of Kanchanaburi DSS

Abstract: The purpose of this research is to investigate the alcohol consumption rate of the Kanchanaburi population and to explore the relationship between types of activity and alcohol consumption behaviours controlling by sex, age, marital status, education and place of residence. The data was obtained from the baseline survey of Kanchanaburi project round 1 (2000) conducted by the Institute for Population and Social research, Mahidol University. The population of aged 15 years and over (except students) was 25,546. The analysis was based on descriptive statistics and Chi-square test. The results revealed that almost half of the population (42 percent) consumed alcoholic beverages, 9 percent of the population consumed alcoholic beverages regularly (at least 1 day in a week). About four percent of the population consumed both liquors and beer regularly, 3 percent regularly consumed liquor, and 2 percent regularly consumed beer. The consumer’s types of activity were related to both liquors and beer consumption behaviours with statistical significance at 0.05. The population who were industrial workers, crafts men and drivers consumed liquors or beer more regularly than other occupations. It was also found that males, labour force aged (25-59), married, high education, and those who lived in urban area were more likely to consume liquors and beer more regularly than females, young or elderly, single, lower education, and those who lived in rural area respectively. The study recommended the organizations such as the Provincial Public Heath Office should promote more about alcohol consumption prevention, especialy in the groups of industrial employees, crafts men and drivers as the first priority.

Abstract: การศึกษาครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อหาอัตราการบริโภคเครื่องดื่มแอลกอฮอล์ของประชากรในจังหวัด กาญจนบุรี และศึกษาถึงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างพฤติกรรมการบริโภคเครื่องดื่มแอลกอฮอล์กับลักษณะงาน ควบ คุมโดยลักษณะทางประชากรและสังคมของผู้บริโภค รวมทั้ง เพศ อายุ สถานภาพสมรส ระดับการศึกษา และเขต ที่อยู่อาศัย โดยใช้ข้อมูลจากโครงการกาญจนบุรี รอบที่ 1 (2543) ของสถาบันวิจัยประชากรและสังคม มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล ประชากรอายุ 15 ปีขึ้นไป (ยกเว้นนักเรียน)ในการศึกษาทั้งสิ้น 25,546 คน วิเคราะห์ข้อมูล โดยใช้ค่าสถิติร้อยละ (Percentage) และสถิติทดสอบไค-สแควร์ (Chi-square) ผลการศึกษาพบว่า กลุ่มประชากรที่ศึกษาเกือบครึ่งหนึ่งดื่มเครื่องดื่มแอลกอฮอล์ คือ เหล้าหรือเบียร์ (ร้อยละ 42) และ 1 ใน 10 ของประชากร (ร้อยละ 9) ดื่มเครื่องดื่มแอลกอฮอล์เป็นประจำ คือ อย่างน้อย 1 วันต่อ สัปดาห์ ผู้ที่ดื่มทั้งเหล้าและเบียร์เป็นประจำ ร้อยละ 4 ดื่มเหล้าอย่างเดียวเป็นประจำ ร้อยละ 3 และดื่มเบียร์อย่าง เดียวเป็นประจำ ร้อยละ 2 และเมื่อทดสอบความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างลักษณะงานของประชากรกับพฤติกรรมการ บริโภคเครื่องดื่มแอลกอฮอล์ พบว่ามีความสัมพันธ์กันอย่างมีนัยสำ คัญทางสถิติ (P-value=0.05) ผู้ที่ทำ งานในโรง งานอุตสาหกรรม ช่างฝีมือด้านต่างๆ และพนักงานขับรถ ดื่มเหล้าเป็นประจำ มากกว่ากลุ่มอาชีพอื่น และพบใน ทำ นองเดียวกันว่าผู้ที่ทำ งานในโรงงานอุตสาหกรรม ช่างฝีมือด้านต่างๆ และพนักงานขับรถ ดื่มเบียร์เป็นประจำ มากกว่ากลุ่มอาชีพอื่น นอกจากนั้นยังพบว่า เพศชายวัยทำ งาน (25-59 ปี) ผู้ที่แต่งงาน มีการศึกษาสูง และผู้ที่ อาศัยอยู่ในเขตเมืองดื่มเหล้าและเบียร์เป็นประจำ มากกว่า เพศหญิง วัยรุ่นหรือวัยสูงอายุ คนโสด ผู้ที่มีการศึกษา ตํ่ากว่า และผู้ที่อาศัยอยู่ในเขตชนบท การศึกษานี้เสนอว่าหน่วยงานต่างๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้อง เช่น สำ นักงานสาธารณสุขจังหวัด ควรมี การรณรงค์ป้องกันการบริโภคเครื่องดื่มแอลกอฮอล์โดยควรให้ความสำ คัญกับผู้ที่ทำ งานในโรงงาน อุตสาหกรรม ช่างฝีมือด้านต่าง และพนักงานขับรถ เป็นกลุ่มเป้าหมายแรก
