Abstract:
This semi-experimental research has a purpose to study how the program of increasing perceived self-efficacy together with creating the motivation effects the behavior of checking the breast by oneself. The sample group was the women the age between 35-60 years who were
sampled in a type of Multi Stage Sampling, divided as an experimental group of 30 women and a control group of 30 women. The experimental group received a program of initiating the behavior of checking the breast by oneself. The research project continued for 8 weeks as follows:Week 1, explaining purposes and collecting data; Week 2, reinforcing knowledge; Week 3, developing a skill of checking the breast by oneself; Week 4, assessing the breast checking by
oneself; and Week 8, sharing, learning, and bringing the knowledge to apply.Tools used in the experiment are interviewing forms which the researcher created about personal data, perceiving, expecting in results, creating motivation, and behavior data of checking the breast oneself. The data is presented as distribution frequency, percentage, mean value, standard deviation. Paired
t-test, and Independent t-test were used to determine significance at
a level of 0.05.
Research result found that the program of increasing perceived self-efficacy together with creating a motivation effected the behavior of checking the breast by oneself of women has caused: 1) The experimental group perceived a capability in checking the breast by oneself higher than pre-experimenting, and higher than the control group.2)The experiment group expected in a result of breast self-examination higher than pre-experimenting, and higher than the control
group.3)The experimental group created a motivation in checking the breast by oneself higher than pre-experimenting, and higher than the control group.4)The experimental group had the behavior of checking the breast by oneself higher than pre-experimenting, and higher than the control group.
From experiment result, its seen that providing the program of perceiving ones own capability together with creating a motivation influences and improves the behavior of breast self-examination.Therefore, its needed to apply the theory of self-efficacy together with creating a motivation in promoting brest cancer prevention as well as other aspects of health.
