Abstract:
This research aimed to describe lifestyle and determined factors influencing thehealth-promoting lifestyle of high school students in the eastern region. the questionnaire, based on Pender's Health-Promoting Profile II, was developed and tested for its reliability, with the alpha coefficient of higher than .80 The data were collected from 1,244 students in twelve high schools, which were located in four eastern region provinces. Self-administered questionnaires were employed for data collection during January, 2001 Data analysis techniques was stepwise multiple regression.The results depicted that 57.8 % of the students had moderate level of health promoting - lifestyle, 42.0 % had high level of health promoting lifestyle and 0.2 % had low level of health promoting lifestyle. Situational influences, perceived barriers of health promoting- lifestyle, interpersonal influences, perceived benefits of health - promoting lifestyle were significantly affected health-promoting lifestyle (beta= 0.321, p<.001; beta= -0.217, p<.001; beta= 0.138, p<.001; beta= 0.133, p <.001 respectively) All factors, together, explained 32.1It was recommend that students should be encouraged to perform health- promoting lifestyle by improving situational influences, motivating persons who closed to the students to be role models, providing information about benefits of health-promoting lifestyle. Health-promoting lifestyie which is convenient, simple, and safe will help decrease perceived barriers among students and keep them having health promoting lifestyle in their life.
