Trends in the development of teaching and learning communication arts in the area of speech communication at the higher education level in Thailand in the next decade
Abstract:
The main purposes of this research were threefold: First, to investigate the historical backgrounds of Speech Communication from the past to present: Second, to foresee the trends in Thai society in the next decade, based on the influence of new technology and communication. These include trends in politics, economics, education, social life, and culture. Third, to look for appropriate trends or directions in the development of teaching and learning Speech Communication in congruence with Thai society in the next decade, by considering trends in five areas of changes : (a) Technology and Communication, (b) the Definition of Speech Communication, (c) Employment Opportunities, (d) Cultural Diversity and (e) Relationships among Social Power, Social Order, and Communication. This research was conducted by using Principles of Content Analysis and Applied Delphi Technique. The research instruments were interviewing forms, questionnaires, and recording forms. The data were obtained from historical documents and viewpoints of qualified respondents based on the conditions of Applied Delphi Technique. Finally, the overall findings are presented and discussed. Based on the research outcomes, conceptual model for the development of teaching and learning Speech Communication at the higher education level in Thailand in the next decade is also formulated and explained in this study.
